Costa da Morte (Coast of Death), 2023.
Platinum Palladium on Arches Platine & BW C-types in various sizes.
The work studies a coast in Galicia, a region scarred by the frequent bushfires that are intensifying with the effects of climate change. Eucalyptus plantations, which were introduced for their economic value fuel the fires with their oily and flammable foliage. Infrared film used in the work renders the post-burn landscape in a spectrum beyond human sight, where near-infrared reflectance reveals plant physiology and material condition undergoing healing and regeneration.
Cameraless photography using found objects from the bushfire regeneration site.
