*The sign reads:
”Arriba España: Long live Spain” a term used by the Falange Party, which has been an axis of the former dictator Franco’s regime since the 1930s. It is a shout-out with the meaning of 'make a unified great Spain' by stretching out your right hand and extending your five fingers. ”Viva España” also means ”Long live Spain”, but this is what the royalists shouted when expressing their patriotism.
This photograph was shot on the last day of the lockdown. On the front of the columns we see on the right side are the names of Children who went on The Balmis Expedition, officially called the Real Expedición Filantrópica de la Vacuna a three-year mission, from 1803 to 1806, to Spanish America and Asia led by Dr. Francisco Javier de Balmis with the aim of vaccinating millions against smallpox.
