VITA
TEYÉ, also known as Taejay Lee, is a South Korean artist with a background in advertising and a current focus on photography. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Advertising from the University of the Arts London and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Photography at the Royal College of Art in London. Having spent a decade as a creative in advertising agencies in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, TEYÉ made a shift in his career to immerse himself in Chemical Photography and Alternative Processes. This shift from advertising to fine art photography suggests a deep personal and artistic evolution for TEYÉ. His background in both fields contributes to a unique perspective, blending the creative storytelling techniques of advertising with the depth and introspection associated with fine art.
이태제. 런던예술대학교 광고학 전공, 현 영국 왕립예술원 사진학 석사 과정. 광고제작 배경을 가진 대구 출생 시각예술가로 사진을 중점으로 작품활동을 하고 있다. 유럽, 아시아 및 중동의 광고대행사와 프로덕션에서 다년간의 크리에이티브디렉터 활동 후 화학사진 및 비은염 프린팅에 몰두하기 위해 독립했다. 광고에서 예술 사진으로의 변화는 그에게 깊은 개인적이고 예술적인 변화를 시사한다. 시간에 초점을 둔 그의 작품세계는 광고의 창의적인 스토리텔링 기술과 시각예술의 고요한 내적 사색이 결합해 독특한 시각을 제시한다. 서울의 자하 미술관, 라이카 청담, 스페인 아테리에 데 포토그라피아 아 코루냐에서 개인전을 가졌으며, 마르시안스토리가 출판한 사진집 “My World(s)"는 IPA에서 두 개의 명예 언급을 받았다. 그의 작품은 2020년과 2022년 IPA에서 Fine Art Film & Others 부문 1위와 Fine Art Film 부문 3위를 수상 했으며 다수의 국제 무대에서 입상하는 영예를 얻었다. 이태제는 2020년 InCadaqués 사진 축제에서 Runners Up으로 선정되었으며 2022년 바르셀로나 Revela'T 페스티벌의 국제 레지던시 프로그램에 여덟 명의 아티스트 중 한 명으로 선정되어 참가했다.

PROCESS
TEYÉ works with 19th-century traditional printing techniques such as Cyanotype and Platinum Palladium process, as well as cameraless photography. The contact printing process requires a negative the same size as the final print, he uses the finest quality transparency film to create digital negatives from raws & scans of 4x5 and 120mm film negatives. The noble materials used in the process like the Platinum Palladium process are proven to maintain the tonality permanently and are known to be one of the finest handmade photographic processes of all time.
이태제의 작업은 싸이아노타입 또는 플래티넘 팔라디움 프로세스와 같은 19세기 전통 사진기술 혹은 카메라없이 이미지를 생성해내는 사진기술로 이뤄진다. 4x5, 120mm 필름 네거티브를 스캔하거나 Raw 파일의 변환 후 최고급 투명 필름을 이용해 최종 인화물과 동일한 크기의 디지털 네거티브를 제작한 후 밀착 인화를 통해 진행된다. 플래티넘 팔라디움 프로세스와 같은 프로세스에 사용되는 고귀한 재료인 백금으로 만들어진 사진은 은염인화물에 비해 월등한 계조를 영구적으로 유지하여, 내구성과 보존성 역시 현존하는 인화기술 중 가장 뛰어난 전통 수제 사진 프로세스로 알려져있다. 까다로운 제작 방식와 높은 제작비, 습도와 온도에 민감한 유제 관리등의 이유로 현재는 국내외에서 극소수의 사진가들만이 플래티넘 팔라디움 프로세스로 작업하고 있다.
